Federal Tax Tables – Review and Information

Before the Current Tax Payment Act was made a law, people would mail in their taxes. There was no federal withholding or federal tax withholding tables. This act was passed in order to keep funds flowing in. To sell the idea to the public, government officials promoted withholding as an advantage to taxpayers because it would make it much easier and less stressful to pay annual dues. Of course, the real reason for federal withholding was to make sure that there would always be a constant flow of tax revenue. Without withholding, politicians worried that taxpayers might eventually refuse to mail in their annual tax liability payments.

The federal tax withholding table was created by the IRS to convey tax rules and regulations to others. It is extremely important for employers to ensure they have the most up-to-date tax regulation information. This is so they can deduct the correct amount of money from employees and avoid payroll penalties.

When a company hires a new employee, they are asked to fill out a W-4 tax withholding form. And unless you specify a special method of federal tax withholding, the federal tax withholding tables will be used to figure your taxes. If your filing status is married, you can expect your tax withholding to be less than if you file as single. You will also have greater federal tax withholding if you claim fewer exemptions.

Federal Tax Tables— Free Consultations

Federal withholding tax tables are designed in such a way that, usually, you should have excessive federal taxes withheld. For instance, the federal tax tables assume that the taxable gross income that you earn is your normal rate of pay, even if your job entails commission. It doesn’t matter if it really is your normal rate or not. A higher rate of pay will place you in a higher tax bracket, based on the assumption that this is your normal rate of pay.

Remember that the federal tax tables are intended to withhold excessive amounts of money. Government designed them this way to result in extra funds and to ensure that a large percentage of the people won’t end up owing federal taxes. However, as a taxpayer, are not forced to accept the level of withholding that the tax table computes. You can raise or lower your exemptions whenever you wish, to reach the level of withholding that is right for you.
