The private, more personal experience of the VCR was closer to the original idea of the Kinetoscope, but obviously more advanced. As the sale and rental of films on home video became a profitable source of revenue for film companies, the idea of major stores such as Blockbuster came about. These stores grew exponentially along with the demand for popular movie rentals. Now, Blockbuster is one of the largest video rental stores in the world.
